How do we keep track of which customers you’ve referred?
The banners and links that you create from our website have a very special URL that is unique to your username and the Campaign name that you specify when you create the banners.
When someone visits that URL, we extract the information and turn it into a “Cookie” which is stored on the user’s browser. From that point on, each time that the user’s browser visits the Skydive Chicago website it will also submit the cookie, which lets us know that you’re responsible for the traffic.
If a user who’s clicked on your link and has your cookie signs up for an account on our website, your cookie’s information will be permanently linked with that customer account. From that point forward we will know what purchases you are responsible for.
Is this system 100% Accurate?
No, this tracking mechanism is not 100% accurate, there are some scenarios in which we will not be able to properly track what business you’ve generated for us. This is because some computer’s privacy settings do not allow persistent Cookies, and also because the customer could click on your link on one computer, but then re-visit the site and sign up on a different computer. We estimate that our tracking capabilities have about a 5% margin for error. We’ve factored this into our pricing.
These are some scenarios where you will be credited for purchases:
- A customer with ANY browser settings clicks on your banner and visits our site. The customer then immediately creates and account and makes a purchase. You will receive credit because the entire transaction took place in one browser session and we were able to associate your cookie with that customer.
- A customer with default browser settings’ clicks on your banner and visits our site. The customer closes the browser but then revisit’s the site the next day, when they create an account and make a purchase. You will receive credit because we will still be able to read the cookie and can associate it with that customer when they create their account.
- A customer with default browser settings clicks on your banner and visits our site. The customer shuts down their computer. 4 months later the customer searches for us on Google and comes to our site, at which point they create an account and make a purchase. You will be credited because we are still able to read the initial cookie and associate it with the customer when they create their account.
- A customer with ANY browser settings clicks on your banner and visits our site. At that time they create an account however do not make a purchase. The customer uses another computer the next day to make a purchase. You will be credited because you were responsible for the first visit to our website and we were able to associate that username with your cookie at the time the account was created.
These are some scenarios where you will not be credited for purchases:
- A customer with very strict privacy settings clicks on your link and visits our website, but does not create an account. They close the browser but the next day revisit the site and make a purchase. You would not be credited because your cookie information was lost when the browser was closed and we were unable to associate you with that customer.
- A customer with any browser settings clicks on your link and visits our website, but does not create an account. The next day they use a different computer to visit our website when they create an account and make a purchase. You would not be credited because your cookie was not on the computer used when the customer created their account, so we have no way to associate your cookie with that customer.
- A customer with any browser settings clicks on your link and visits our website, but does not create an account. Later they open up a different browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari, and other browsers do not share cookie information with each other) and visit our site, where they create an account and make a purchase. You will not be credited for this purchase because we did not have the cookie information at the time they created their account.
