Good morning OTTAWA……After a long, cold, windy, snowy, wet, cold, and did I mention long, winter we are back open. I speak for the entire staff when I say it is nice to see the hangar full of people again.

To get everyone in gear SDC hosted its safety day Friday night in the Skylounge. Not too many empty seats as we went over a typical day at the DZ. Prep, Aircraft, Freefall Safety, Malfunctions, and Tracking were all covered during the 3 hour review. A popular event was the gear check, this is where we purposely tamper with some gear and people have to find the errors. Thanks to everyone for stopping by and EAT UP for having food and drinks.

Saturday we woke up to blues skies and mild temps. The hangar was bustling with activity. Many out of town jumpers stopped in to take advantage of the great weather. SDC’s 4-way team, Rhythm XP, was on hand organizing everyone who was in attendance. They are a great addition to the SDC family and we look forward to the year to come.
The following is a Rhythm XP update:
We could not have asked for a better weekend in March for opening day at SDC.

Both Saturday and Sunday, the sun was shining, winds were light and variable, and the Otter flew loads all day. It was an especially great time for many newer skydivers to get recurrent for the upcoming season, and we were happy to help a number of people get checked off again. In addition to that, from 2-ways to 7-ways, we enjoyed organizing some great jumping during the days followed by delicious dinner and fun at the SDC bar at night.

The season has begun! We're looking forward to our next weekend at SDC, which will be Team-for-a-day 1, April 11/12 weekend. There is still some space available, but people who are interested in joining us must sign up beforehand. Also, while our March Tunnel Skills camp is full, there is still availability for the May 30th weekend. All experience levels are welcome.

We flew the first load on Saturday around 9:30 and after a few back to backs we ended the day with 12 mostly full loads.
Saturday night EAT UP had another great dinner and it was great to see the skylounge filled with people. Sharing jump stories and winter travels and drinks were poured and good times had. EAT UP is posting their weekly menu in the forums so be sure to check it out to see the grub for the weekend.

Many of you saw the remodeled manifest, and shower house. Thanks to David and Enzo for their hard work in getting this done. We have a few more projects that we will be completing throughout the year. SDC is truly the best DZ!

The following is an exciting project put on by the SDC Furies:
The Furies' Apprentice is here!
What is it?
A year-long mentorship program for four-way teams including assistance with planning, technique, training and team dynamics, from choosing a team and prepping the season to completing your final competition. Activities will include coaching, offline discussions, and the possibility of wind tunnel camps for interested teams. There's no charge other than your regular training costs!

Who is it for?
Any group of four skydivers who are interested in moving to the next level, from "we just graduated AFP and we want to try our hands at 4-way" to "Nationals was fun this year, but next year we want to place a lot higher." There will be a limited number of spaces available though, so let us know if you're interested as soon as you've got your team together!

So if you've been skydiving for a while but this year you want to do something a little more challenging than zoo dives,
OR
You think 4-way looks like fun but you're not sure you're into all the confusing terms and codes,
OR
You're totally gung ho about competing and have done a few meets, but this year you really want to make the most of your practice jumps,
then we are here for ya! We are way nicer than Donald Trump, and you will not be fired. On the other hand, we also won't let you do less than you're capable of!
For more info, email sarah@sdcfuries.com, we'll send you all the details!

For those of you who saw the Sky raider that was being housed in the hangar, it was sent back home with a brand new paint job. Just a few weeks before we opened, Positive Painting said farewell to one kick-ass painted plane.

So I like to make a rule while at the DZ. No one can mention the economy! If you don’t get enough of it on the radio, TV, Newspaper, Internet, 401Ks, then you need to be at the DZ more. SDC is an economy free zone, where you can relax, jump and enjoy life! Spread the Love!
The season has kicked off to a great start especially with the weather starting to turn. We are open seven days a week and look forward to jumping with you!
