Skydive Chicago

First I want to apologize for not keeping everyone up to date on what has been going on but it seems like I’m not in one place for long enough to sit down and write an update.  I like home where everything is in one place.

Even with the ice storm that covered the runway we were bound and determined to get to warmer temperatures!

I would like to thank everyone that came down to the Invasion and rang in the New Year with us.  We had great weather with the exception of New Year’s day (which was nice).  The New Years party was nothing short of a Jam with great skydives, a live band, DJs, champagne toast, and fire dancing.  I had 46 people attend the first of 5 tryout camps for the upcoming FF record.  We are hoping to build 100 and the attendance of the events makes me believe that it won’t be a problem.  Thanks to Luis for helping co-organize the tryouts.  You can check out all the action at www.skydiveseb.com and in the upper right hand corner click the link.

Special thanks to Donovan who did some midnight missions and kept the planes running at their best.

Right after the invasion Erin and I headed to Costa Rica for a vacation. The place is truly amazing and you certainly see where it’s a hot spot for tourists.  We spent two weeks traveling around, surfing, hiking, and relaxing.  The place would make a great DZ!!  Who knows maybe in the future we will try to get something going.

A day after I got home from Costa Rica I hopped in N10EA and headed over to the Everglades Boogie.  Air Adventures in Clewiston, FL hosted their second annual event that includes, a bi-plane, L-39, Skyvan and two Otters.  (Sounds like summerfest).  This year’s event brought in a lot of local FL jumpers with Guy Wright, Roger Ponce, Jeff Nebelkopf and Luis heading up the organizing.  I thank them for including our Otter into the boogie.

That brings us current so far on past events.  Just around the corner is the Puerto Rico Boogie. I have started a roll call thread on the forums to see who all is going.  I have heard that we should get quite the crowd.  Be sure to post if you are headed down.  For the latest boogie info check out www.xtremedivers.com

SDC rhythm XP sent me the following to post:

SDC Rhythm XP went to the Paraclete XP wind tunnel this past weekend with the SDC Furies for both teams' first training camp of 2009.  For Rhythm, it was our first opportunity to train as a team since we added Rob to the roster.  The two teams flew more than 7 hours over Saturday and Sunday cumulatively.  Both teams were coached by Kirk Verner, who will continue to coach us both throughout 2009.    We had an awesome time, and look forward to many more tunnel and jump trips over the winter and early spring before our season really ramps up at SDC.  We also look forward to having Kirk share his world-class experience at SDC over numerous jump camps this summer.

Rhythm is looking for teams and individuals to share time with us during our tunnel camps, especially from now through early May.  In addition, we have two skills camps scheduled for February and March.  Anyone who is interested should contact Steve Lefkowitz at steve@rhythmskydiving.com.  Our training/organizing schedule is up to date, and can be found at www.rhythmskydiving.com/2009schedule.html.

Best,

As much fun as it is running around with the aircraft I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season at SDC.  We have lined up a great calendar of events and have already started advertising for Summerfest.  There will be great energy with all the teams training, not to mention the opportunity to learn from them.  If we could only fast forward to spring.

As most of you know I did not win the election for regional Director.  I appreciate everyone that voted for me and I will continue to do all that I can to help the sport.  I hope that this past election motivates the BOD to help bring the sport to the next level.

Campground residents please keep current on your rent.  You can send in your payments to manifest or pay online at www.ottawaairportinc.com.  We have office hour Mondays, Wednesday, and Friday 10 am to 1 pm if you want to call and pay over the phone.

Opening day is less than a month and a half away, if you have been putting off a re-line, repack, or work on your equipment now is the time to drop it off at Para-Concepts.  Don’t forget that the repack cycle is now 180 days.

We have started to put the Caravan to use here and there and people are pretty happy overall with the aircraft.  I was able to fly it on a few loads and it handles really nice.  I plan to have it in Chicago for the spring so our minimums are now going to be 6!

Thanks to everyone that sent in the 100 jump packages.  The 100 jump package is the only one that you can’t buy all season, you still have the option of the 50 or 200 jump packages.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in shorts down in Puerto Rico!
