Well once again it seems like we have the best Mondays in the business. I really think we should shift the weekend to Sunday and Monday. Even though the weather hasn’t been picture perfect we have been busy getting ready for the upcoming season. I would like to welcome back Kenny and Whitney from the travels. From their travels they are bringing back with them many new ideas on making SDC the premier place to jump. Many have you notice the changes with the website and forum page. Friday we are starting the switchover from jump run to Real Drop-Zone. The new program will allow you to check and post money on accounts, purchase tandems, manifest and receive updates to streamline your experience at the dropzone. Please give us your feedback. “If you have received this weekly update by email but have not yet signed up for an account on our new website, please sign up for an account so that you continue to receive updates by email.” The SDC four way teams were ready to get started on Saturday; however, clouds and temperature keep us on the ground for the morning. The teams kept themselves busy by watching training jumps and creeping. Remember that the teams are starting Saturday at 8 am and Sunday at 9am.
Genies Café opened up the Skylounge Saturday night, even with the bad weather a great bunch of people came out. It was nice to see the familiar faces and hear the winter ‘survival’ stories. I promised to everyone that I would have a new winter location so it gives us all an excuse not to be here this winter. And a note from the café: Saturday Night in the SkyLounge Roasted Turkey Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Gravy Sweet Potato Casserole Salad, Rolls & Dessert $8.00 Easter Morning Buffet Festive Scrambled Eggs Home Fries Bacon Sausage Pinwheels Vegetable Sausage Strata Chicken Bake Swirl Coffee Cake Raisin Bran Muffins Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast Chocolate Dipped Strawberries $10.99 (price includes coffee & orange juice only) There used to be a rule (which was established before I arrived) where you could enter the SkyLounge or Tiki Hut with your first drink and I went along with it. But, it has truly gotten out of hand. People think they can keep running back & forth from their car/trailer to the bar. Well as of this weekend, no one will be allowed to enter the SkyLounge or Tiki Hut with any cocktail. I still have to pay the same insurance & licensing fees that every bar in town does and this is how I pay my rent & for those fees. I know you wouldn’t be allowed to enter another bar with drink in hand & my hope is that would give me that same courtesy.
Para-Concepts held its annual spring rigging course this past week. They had 9 students and here’s a note from there website: A hearty congratulation to Vladi Pesa, Angie Lewis, Martin Grider, Jerod Cole, Jerry Baker, Greg Feldheim, Erol “Smiley” Baybura, Gonzalo Velasco, & Vinny Howard for completing the course and earning their FAA Senior Rigger certificate. An extra note: Vinny managed to complete both the Back and Seat type ratings, finishing 10 seat packs in a single day, working towards the required 20 pack jobs of each type.. If you are interested in getting your rating please check out www.para-concepts.com for more info.
Dave and 10EA went to Kansas City for a spring boogie. They had around 100 people for the event but due to the weather not much jumping. They are looking into hosting another event possible in the fall keep your eyes on the calendar for further updates. I’d like to thank Don Kirlin for running the WFFC for many years and feel unfortunate that it won’t be operating this year. We have supported the event for many years and hope that the event that was started by Roger won’t die. Now I have good news and bad. In this circumstance I always like to start with the bad news so you have something to look forward to. Ok so the bad news I have sold the Pitts. It will be leaving this Friday. If anyone still has a ride ticket please see manifest for a refund or it can be transferred to your jump account. Now the good news, I have confirmed a Pitts for summerfest to do inverted jumps. They will be around $85 with the optional picture package. He will be here for the entire event so be sure to get your inverted jump in!!! The mandatory staff meeting is April 14 after jumping. If you want to work at SDC this year please don’t miss this. We have changes this year and want to make sure that everyone is on the same page. Also the rating course is starting on the 12th of this month. If you are interested in getting your coach, tandem, or AFF rating please contact manifest for more information. Rook |
