Summer is here!

After somewhat of a slow week due to weather the skies cleared up for the weekend and meet #1 of MWSL. Seven teams took advantage of the good weather and competed in the meet. Dave and John fired up the Otters Saturday morning and made short work of the event completing all rounds by early afternoon. The following is an update from meet director Alan Butt:

Seven teams took advantage of Saturday's beautiful weather to have a great time at our season opener at SDC. Highlights included SDC Rhythm XP's terrific 16.8 average performance, good enough for second place among all teams competing internationally in the top class and only two points shy of the Dutch National team. Similarly, new team CSC Pareto Optimal finished only one point short of top AA finisher Netherlands Ignition. And Wisconsin's Just4Fun (AA) kicked off their record 7th straight season in the MWSL.

Pareto Optimal took home a prize of a set of free jumps at SDC; Rookie winners Flying Fish won free jumps at CSC.
A preview of all the teams as well as full results are posted at the NSL website http://skyleague.com/pages/news/showArticles.php?story=1427.

Many thanks to all the competitors and especially the videoflyers, some of whom came out on very short notice. Thanks to Rhythm for providing first rate coaching and to Laurent for taking care of most of the judging duties. Also to Karry, Rook, and the crew at Skydive Chicago for one of the smoothest running MWSL meets ever.

Hopefully we will be as lucky with the weather at our next meet July 18 at CSC.
Thanks for your support
Thanks Alan for running the meet. Also to Rhythm for coaching and judging the event. Is this why they have a 16.8 average?

Max was busy keeping the bags in the air with 12-18 ways. On the other side of the hangar Ben was busy pushing water up hill (also known as freefly organizing.) Thanks guys for keep the planes turning.

David just keeps adding oil to his fine running student program. 100 tandems by 4 pm and 6 AFP students through class; but the winds Saturday kept most of the AFP’s on the ground. Make sure you say ‘hi’ to our recent graduates. Most of you know that the transitions from student to experienced jumper can be intimidating.

As some of you heard, I had a premature opening Saturday. This doesn’t sound that bad but I was head down. I urge everyone to make sure they check their rigs regularly to make sure nothing is getting worn out. It’s easy to ‘overlook’ things when the season is rolling. The last thing someone wants to do is not jump cause his or her rig is in the shop. I didn’t get hurt from the opening but it did tweak my shoulder and elbow, which put me out of commission for the week. I feel fortunate that was all that happened. Please take an extra second and go over your gear to make sure that something hasn’t worn out. Para-Concepts can handle any repair and have you back in the air safer than before.

Coming up this weekend is High Altitude Jumps. You must have a ‘B’ license to sign up and the cost is $46. We will go up to 20,000 feet. Jump times are 10am, 2pm, and 6pm. Please sign up in manifest when you arrive so we don’t overbook the loads.
Rhythm is hosting Team for a Day this coming weekend as well. Where else do you get to jump with the current 4-way advance champs?! Take advantage of there experience and get on some great jumps.

With the temps on the rise make sure to manage your power. Trailers are not the most efficient homes out there. Remember that part time power usage is 330 kWh and full time is 1000 kWh. Overages will be billed to your monthly statements.
Right around the corner is the 4th of July boogie. Guy Wright will be in town doing 40-ways. Kirk Verner will be here coaching Rhythm and has offered to organize for the weekend. The Freefly Money Meet will be taking place also. The UFO jump and fireworks show will take place Saturday night. There will be a band at the Tiki bar after the show. SDC is the place to be for the 4th!

Less then a month away is Summerfest! I can’t believe how fast this event is sneaking up on us. We are planning for the largest event yet. We’ve added some new nightly events and brought back some of the favorites. We have a fleet of organizers on hand to keep the 5 turbines in the air! We have doubled the vendors and are adding more facilities to handle everyone. Check out the Summerfest page by clicking HERE.

Thanks to all jumpers that called SDC home this past weekend.
