Skydive Chicago

What a great, almost weather free, holiday.

The week started off strong with four graduates, Mike Hutton, Kevin Bryniczka, Mike McDonald and Doug Terrell.  With the pace we have going we could break 100 AFP graduates this year!   The GO PRO cameras are a big hit and have been working great.  The camera, in addition to the SDC custom jump drive, really add to the overall program.

This spring we have built great momentum for our weekday business.  AFP in a Week, ratings courses, team training, tandem Tuesday, in combination with the new Caravan has really picked up the weekday activity.  Some weekdays are just as busy as weekends!  This past week we did 132 loads!

Don’t forget we have our own Tandem Examiner onsite.  Steve Verner will be running courses throughout the year.  Click HERE to see our calendar of events.

I like Memorial Weekend.  This usually is the first ‘big’ weekend of the year.  The weather held out for us and SDC was rocking!

Saturday the otter was fired up at 8 am and didn’t shut off until 31 loads later.   The Caravan was put through the paces flying an impressive 19 loads!  Thanks to Jerry and John for keeping us in the air.  Only one more weekend with the Caravan as we will ‘swap’ them on June 4th.  SDC will have two Otters all summer.

Brian Germain was in town hosting his popular canopy course.  12 people attended the workshop that included: stretching, lecture, video, and jumping.  All attendees walked away gaining some valuable knowledge.  Brian will be back in town September 12-13.  Sign up today to make sure you get a slot!

Todd and Lisa were LOing this holiday weekend.  The following is a post from them:

We FINALLY had great weather for most of Memorial weekend. Woohoo!!! Thanks to the weather, we were able to organize a number of RW groups.  We had a good range of experience, from jumpers with 30 to 400 skydives. This enabled us to focus on a few small groups.  Congratulations to Mike McDonald for graduating AFP!  Our group participated in his grad jump.  Also, we wanted to thank the other jumpers who participated: Thomas, Kenny, Bob, Tom, Mike, Jerry, Kati, and Chris.  Thanks for your patience!!!

Going forward, we will continue to focus on our goal, which is working on basic RW skills while keeping our groups relatively small.  Our target audience is AFP grads to intermediate RW jumpers. If you have any questions, you can contact us thru Facebook (Lisa DeSimone); or, SDC Forums; or, email us at zaats@sbcglobal.net. Our next RW organizing weekend will be Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th. Hope to see you then!

Thanks Todd and Lisa!

Sean Hutto helped us keep the freeflyers in the air.  Sean was doing everything from hybrids and sits, to VRW and tracking.  SDC plans to have organizers every weekend whether it’s freefly or RW we have got you covered.

Many of you have noticed the first loads going rather early.  To help the SDC teams we put the first load on a 15 min call at 7:45am.  The first four loads will be back to back.  Join us for some early loads and slip ‘n’ slide landing on the wet grass.

Tiki Bar, tiki bar!  This past weekend was the grand opening of the tiki bar!  The popular gathering spot was filled with faces happy that the weather was allowing us to be outside.  The tunes were jamming, the dinner was delicious and, of course, too many drinks were consumed!  Thanks Eat Up for the great opening.

Don’t forget that you can bring your daily videos to the Tiki Bar and plug them into the TV.  There is a switch box that you can plug your cable directly into.

Sunday Chuck Finley and Sally, in conjunction with EAT UP, held a jump for the cause fundraiser.  This great foundation is set up to further the research into breast cancer.  Chuck, Sally, and TJ sold T-shirts, glasses (with beer) and food.  The proceeds went to the foundation.  Thanks guys!

As tradition holds true Monday wasn’t the greatest weather day.  The foyer was packed in the morning for breakfast.  The grounds slowly started to fade as the day rolled on.  It looked like an Internet café with everyone on his or her laptop checking weather.

Coming up this weekend we have the WSDRA Jump-a-Thon Fundraiser.  Local jumper Mike Deegan has put together another great event where people donation money to the organization and then get tossed out of a plane!

Please remember that you must be canoeing or jumping to be camping at SDC.  All campers must register at manifest to get their waistband.  IF you do not register you will be asked to leave.

The cabins are starting to sell out.  There are still some holiday weekends available but book soon.  Call manifest 815 433 0000.

On a side note I got my final inspection and spent the first night in my new house.  Thanks everyone for helping me have a house without wheels!
