Skydive Chicago

I was one day away from starting to build an ARK, and then the blue skies came.

The weeks are starting to pick up with school getting out and the warmer temps arriving.  The Caravan has been a perfect fit to our needs for a smaller weekday turbine.   We are seeing many weekdays with back-to-back loads!

Congratulations to Bill, Chad, Jeff, Scott, and Dale for getting their AFF rating.  Now the fun really starts!

The AFP program is in full swing with Andy Zurborg, Josh Click, and Stephanie Erickson all graduating this past week.  Way to go and follow those Golden Rules!

In addition to the AFPs, the tandem program has been going strong.  I have to be honest I was a bit nervous going in to the season but it seems, in a bad economy, that people really like jumping out of planes.  Imagine that?  We have almost 200 on the books for the first Saturday in June!

Thanks to everyone that came out for $14 jumps.  Unfortunately we watched the rain all day.  Keep watch on Twitter or the website for discounted jump days.

Saturday was hit and miss with the weather but we still managed to get up a handful of loads.  Thanks to John who braved the crosswind in the Otter to get us up in the air.

Sunday we woke up to beautiful skies and light winds.  The wheels were in the air at 7:58 am and the otter didn’t shut off until 31 loads later.  We even started up the Caravan for 6 loads to keep the calls to a minimum.  Rhythm had their first training weekend.  The team is very dedicated, cranking out 20 jumps on Sunday!  The following is a post from them:

Continuing Education: Rhythm will be conducting a Continuing Education this Saturday on prepping and debriefing techniques.   This will be a hands-on exercise, focused on how to prep and debrief any skydive (not just team dives) to maximize efficiency, learning and enjoyment.

Coffee & Stretch with SDC Rhythm XP:  Want to get up early and make first load, but need some motivation to get moving?  Join Rhythm for coffee and stretching before first load every training day.   All are welcome to join.   Jokes and funny stories are encouraged during stretching.

Tunnel Camp at Paraclete XP, May 30 & 31:  We still have a few slots left in our last tunnel camp until the fall.  Check out here
http://www.paracletexp.com/index.php?q=node/83 or contact JaNette (janette@rhythmskydiving.com, 312 543 4857) for more details or to sign up.

SDC Bar Night, June 3rd:  Rhythm is hosting another bar night in downtown Chicago to help promote skydiving at SDC.  Bring friends and join us at Gamekeepers 345 W. Armitage Chicago, IL at 7pm.   We'll be playing skydiving video on a few of their many screens; if you have video you'd like to play, let us know.

Team for a Day, June 27 & 28th:  Sign up now for the next team for a day (
http://www.rhythmskydiving.com/events_coaching.html#teamday).  If there's enough interest, we'll have an 8 way group in addition to the usual 4-way team for a day groups.  Contact Rhythm (all@rhythmskydiving.com) to sign up or for more details.

Great news, the Tiki Hut will have its grand opening this weekend!  We have dusted off the cobwebs and are ready to start enjoying some of this great weather.  Remember that there are expenses that go along with running the bar and we ask that if you are hanging out there to please support the cause.

Sunday we are hosting a fundraiser for Jump for a Cause.  EAT UP has teamed up with Chuck to donate the proceeds to this great foundation.  Save the boobies!

Coming up June 6 the Furies will be hosting a New Wave Boogie.  The following is a post from them:

The Skydive Chicago Furies XP will be hosting the New Wave Boogie at Skydive Chicago on June 6th and 7th. This event is targeted for new jumpers (under 300 skydives). If interested, please contact one of the Skydive Chicago Furies XP members! There are a plethora of methods, in this electronic age! You can check our website; or, the Skydive Chicago website; or, the Skydive Chicago Furies XP Facebook page; or, you can email one of the Skydive Chicago Furies XP; or, if your a baglander, you can still use snail mail.

SDC really has a great family of teams that are giving back.  Be sure to join them for some great events.

Being Memorial Day you never know the forecast but the weather looks great and we will have the Otter and Caravan on the flight line.  Hope to see everyone for the Tiki Hut season opener!
