18 Mar 2008 1:29 PM Alert

It was definitely nice to see the halls and hanger filled with people again.

Opening weekend started off, for most, Friday evening in the Sky Lounge.  About 30 people filled the room eager to brush the dust off and participate in safety day.    The review started at 5 pm and went until 9pm.  During the review I covered the basics on a day of jumping from gear checks, to aircraft procedures and freefall techniques to malfunctions.

Geniez Café had food prepared and the bar open.  Nothing better then attending a seminar with a beer in your hand!!  Thanks to everyone that came out.

Saturday morning the staff was all prepared to get things rolling but Mother Nature had other plans.  Low clouds and cooler temps kept us on the ground.  Some took advantage and attended the Safety day review and Para-Concepts hosted a parachute packing review.  Thanks to Betsy for lending her time.

Sunday we awoke to blue skies and people ready to jump.  A handful of tandems came out.  We pulled the otter out about midmorning for a couple of full loads.   There were a few tandems students that went twice!!  Remember the days when you didn’t care if it was cold?  Thanks to the tandem masters who braved the chilly temps.

Thanks for everyone coming in and updating their accounts.  If you haven’t done so, please come in and re-waiver. We need a new one each year.  Also, if you have a slot in the campground you need to sign a new lease agreement.  We still have slots available for anyone looking.   We also have a few lockers still available in the hanger for rent.  Why bring your gear home each weekend when you can leave it here in your secured locker?  If you already have a locker please pay your locker rent ASAP.

Please bear with us on the new locks for the shower house.  It will, in the long run, make the facility better for you.  You can get the pass code when you update your account in manifest.

With the cold winter and space heaters running we have fried some wires in the campground.  We will be contacting people that need to move their trailers so we can make the repair.  I’m personally asking people to be more diligent when it come to power in the campground.  Also, with spring here that means soft ground…please stay on the roads to avoid tearing up the lawn we all love so much.

In other news we are planning on building some small cabins on the campground hill.  These cabins will be self-contained and sleep up to 4 people.   We plan on building three to start and expand based on sales.  We are estimating a price of around $45 per night.    We are planning to have them completed by mid-spring.

Coming up April 11 is an AFP refresher.  This class is free to anyone who is enrolled into the AFP program.  Come out and get current!!

April 12 is the mandatory staff meeting.  If you want to work here this year you must attend the meeting.

April 19th, weather permitting, is night jumps.  We will send the load no matter how many people are on it.  If you need to meet your USPA license requirements this is for you!!

Thanks to everyone that came out for the opening weekend and we look forward to another great season.
